The application will ask you to check your contact information, emergency contact information, and home address. Finally, you will need to check over your preferences to see if you have any changes that you may need to make!
The university is currently planning to provide a limited number of triples for the 2022-2023 school year, but this may change according to public health guidelines.
- Check your email for a continuing student housing application. You should receive this email from [email protected]
- Fill out the UC San Diego Continuing Student Housing Application for the 2021-22 academic year. Failure to submit an application by the deadline forfeits any potential eligibility for housing.

Prefer to move off campus?
Plan to start looking for housing early (at least winter quarter).
Here are some off-campus housing resources, including resources provided by the school such as UCSD’s legal services, formal roommate housing contracts, housing recommendations/listings, etc.
If I choose off-campus housing, will this affect my financial aid?
Check the reddit post listed above and contact the Financial Aid office for confirmation of your personal situation. Keep in mind commuting and off-campus are different! So it will affect your financial aid differently depending on how you list it.

I haven’t decided between On-or-Off Campus Housing! What do I do?
We recommend still filling out the form for on-campus housing. You’re not required to put a deposit down right away, but this is mostly just to put your name down to the school so that they know you are interested in a spot on campus next year and they can give you all information/forms required.

I changed my mind! How do I cancel my contract?
As a scholar, we have your contract setup with a deferment. This means you sign a promissory note so that your Fall Quarter 2022 pays your prepayment. This does not waive any cancellation fees though, and you might have to pay that out of pocket, depending on when you cancel. Please check out the cancellation policy and schedule. It depends on the specific date that you choose to cancel. Please keep in mind that the housing contract is legally binding, so if you do not cancel by September, then you would be moved in and responsible until a termination is approved. Here is a link to the policy: https://hdhughousing.ucsd.edu/_files/Cancellation-Policy-Continuing-2022-23.pdf
Also note that financial aid does cover off campus housing (not with family, depending on your awards), and shared bedroom off campus housing is generally less expensive than a double bedroom in on-campus housing. You might need to provide a rental agreement or similar document to the Financial Aid Office for your off campus residence. Your aid will pay to your student billing account based on enrollment, just like usual, and since you would not have an on campus housing charge, that amount would be refunded to you to manage and pay to your off campus housing as needed.

FAQs
Ranking:
Q: For upperclassmen housing, how will the housing process work since we have multiple options of living spaces? For example, will we rank our preference of which community/building we would want to live in?
A: Second years (not transfers) are traditionally housed in their college of registration and are only overflowed if there isn’t enough space in their college. Second year transfers and third and fourth year students are traditionally housed in Pepper Canyon Apartments, Matthews Apartments, and Rita. After the housing contract process is over, they will participate in Room Selection, which is where we’ll assign random lottery times on a specific day. On the student’s lottery time and day, they’ll be able to log in and place themselves into a room. They’ll see available spaces in all the communities they are eligible to live in. So for example, if you are a second year transfer student, you may see open spaces in Pepper Canyon, Rita, and Matthews and it’ll be up to you to pick which room you’d like.
Roommates:
Q: How do I find roommates? What's a good roommate?
A: You can set some ground rules by filling out a roommate contract. Here are some tips on roommates: https://www.thoughtco.com/rules-of-roommates-793684
Q: How many people can live per apartment? How many people can you have per housing group?
A: This will vary across all our areas since we have so many layouts. It can range from 4 people all the way to 14 people depending on the area.
Q: What is the roommate situation looking like for apartments, specifically, the Muir apartments (Tamarack/Tuolumne). Typically, I know there are 5-6 students per apartment - how will that look next year in the fall? How many students will share an apartment space with a kitchen/living area?
A: I am not familiar with the specific layouts at Muir so I recommend reaching out to Muir Res Life to get more information regarding how many bedrooms there are in those apartments and how many students will be in each. Traditionally in the past, students were allowed to create roommate groups containing other students who also completed the contract process and were eligible to live in the same community. The number of students allowed in the group varied, depending on the size of the apartment they were trying to fill. For example, if the apartment had enough beds for four people and was open when it comes time to select a space, then you could create a roommate group of four people and put each person in that space. These details haven’t yet been determined for this year’s process but we believe it’ll probably be similar.
Grouping:
Q: You mentioned previously that any 3rd or 4th year student can live with other 3rd or 4th year students regardless of college of registration. That being said, can we request to live with a group? For example, a student finds 3 other people to live with and they can live together in one apartment.
A: When students participate in Room Selection, they’ll be able to create roommate groups with all those they are eligible to live with. One person would create the group (we usually recommend that it’s the person with the earliest time slot). Then that person will assign the whole group to an apartment and place everyone into a room. If you have a group of 4 people, you’ll only be able to see apartments that fit your group (i.e. apartments that have space for 4 people or more).
Q: Do students receive a lottery time per person? If so, how will this work for groups (if possible)? Can we "pull" members of our group into the same living space when we sign up?
A: See above. In addition, note that your guaranteed contract as a scholar does not guarantee you a good lottery time! You are thrown into the same lottery for room selection as everyone else with a contract.
Q: If I have a friend who is an RA in another college (we are both in Muir, but she will be an RA for 6th), can they pull me in?
A: At this time, information regarding who RA’s will be able to pull in as roommates hasn’t yet been shared with us. I believe they are still working out these details. As this is a separate process, I recommend the RA reach out to their area to ask this question.
Q: My friend hasn't received a housing contract yet. Can I pull them in with me by adding them to my group?
A: No. As a scholar, you are guaranteed a contract for yourself, but your friend must also have a contract to be eligible to join a group with you.
Housing Contracts:
Q; If I stay off campus this upcoming year (ie. sophomore year), will I lose my on campus housing guarantee for future years (ie. junior/senior year)?
A: Our scholars will always have first priority when it comes to obtaining a contract. If you don’t live on campus this year and want to return the following year, just reach out to us and we’ll share information regarding how to apply. But regardless of the process, our Regents Scholars will have first priority in obtaining a housing contract to maintain their housing guarantee.
Summer Housing:
Q; Can I stay on campus all summer even if I am not taking a summer class?
A: We do have a program call Short Term Transition housing available to our students who need housing over the summer but will not be taking classes. More information can be found here: https://hdh.ucsd.edu/housing/summer/pages/short-term.html. This housing is available from June 18 to Sept 4.
Housing Details:
Q: I heard that some apartments and buildings have microwaves and others don't. How do I know which buildings have which amenities?
A: Please contact each individual college's ResLife to see more details on your building's specific amenities. If you are living in The Village at Pepper Canyon, please contact the Village Res Life office.
