Banquets
"It was nice to meet a lot of scholars early on and build a community!"
--Don Le, third year
"My favorite part of the experience was meeting Scholars of different years and majors, and still finding so much in common."
--Ariadne Dodd, second year
Each year, Scholars Society holds two special banquets: Fall Reception and Spring Banquet. Fall Reception denotes the beginning of another academic year and welcomes another class of bright new scholars to UCSD. Through this reception, we aim to show new scholars how important they are to our university. Similarly, Spring Banquet closes out the year. We honor scholars who are about to graduate and reflect on the academic year together.
No effort is spared for our banquets: these events feature a catered dinner, VIP university speakers (such as college provosts and the associate vice chancellor), and live entertainment. Students will have the opportunity to mingle with each other and esteemed institutional faculty to make a fantastic and memorable night.
Our 2022 Fall Reception had over 100 student attendees and featured 4 VIP speakers: Allyson Satterlund, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs; John Moore, Dean of Undergraduate Education; Paul Yu, Provost of Revelle College; and David Artis, Dean of Undergraduate Research Advancement. The event was held in the courtyard by the Institute of the Americas and featured a performance by Asayake Taiko, a student-run Japanese drumming group at UCSD!
Our 2020-2021 banquets were held over Zoom, and, in Fall 2021, we adapted to the pandemic by hosting the first-ever outdoor Fall Reception. It had its own package of perks and challenges, but our traditional presentation format combined with the beauty of UCSD's eucalyptus grove to provide to us an experience we aren't soon to forget!
We hope you can join us for our next banquet!
